Frequently asked questions

Why can't I measure with headphones or the iPhone speaker?

The sweep has to play through the speakers in your room, because their response is what Slope analyzes. With headphones or the built-in speaker you would be measuring the iPhone, not your system: disconnect the headphones and choose your system's audio output.

I can't hear the sweep over AirPlay.

It's an iOS limitation, not a problem with your system: while the microphone is recording, iOS keeps AirPlay silent. Connect the iPhone to one of your system's inputs with a cable and try again.

The signal is too weak, or a clipping warning appears.

During the sweep, the bar on the right shows how much signal reaches the microphone. If it stays low, turn the volume up for the next measurement; if it touches the red tick, cancel, turn it down and repeat. Don't change the volume during the sweep.

Slope can't use the microphone.

Allow access in Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone, then go back to Slope and start the measurement again.

Why is the curve marked below 40 Hz?

At the lowest frequencies, the iPhone microphone and the noise in the room make readings less reliable. Slope still shows them, but marked: keep that in mind before adjusting anything in that range.

The values differ from another tool's.

That's expected: the iPhone microphone is not calibrated, so Slope gives relative values, not absolute ones. Compare measurements taken with Slope at the same spot and at the same volume: that's where differences are meaningful.

My measurements don't show up on my other devices.

iCloud sync is optional: turn it on in Slope's Settings on each device and check that they all use the same iCloud account.

I answer personally. To help me understand, tell me your iPhone or iPad model, iOS version and how the iPhone is connected to your system. If you can, attach the PDF summary of the measurement.
